Smooth crooner Julio Iglesias returns to Malaysia to thrill the largest gathering of fans ever in an open-air concert in the shopping district of Jalan Bukit Bintang on December 1. His concert takes place under the auspices of Starhill Gallery as it relaunches a newly refurbished retail experience in the upper reaches of luxury.
Julio Iglesias is happy. Over the phone, he laughs heartily at some of his risqué comments, saying he would be bringing ‘even sexier back-up singers’ this year, compared with the ones who left a very positive impression on audiences at his show last year. He also pitched an offer for an evening with his singers, all said in jest, of course.
French silversmiths Christofle’s recent Haute Orfevre exhibition in Kuala Lumpur shows just why its heritage spans 180 years in time. Benjamin Bilteryst, the brand's Asia-Pacific Managing Director, explains.
On a recent weekday afternoon, in the gleaming silver white Christofle boutique in Starhill Gallery, a beautifully made coffee pot sat on the store’s counter.
This was no ordinary pot, but the Carrier-Belleuse Coffee Pot, designed by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse in 1880. In the same year, the pot (which currently retails for RM97,830) took the gold award in general competition at Paris’ Metal Arts Exhibition.
This pot, and other such precious objects, made its way to Malaysian shores for the recent Christofle Haute Orfevre exhibition. “The pieces on exhibit enable you to travel from the 19th century up till today,” says the brand’s Asia Pacific Managing Director, Benjamin Bilteryst.
Indeed, the range of design influences ranges from empire design to art nouveau and art deco to more contemporary pieces. “And, in these pieces, the different techniques of its silversmiths show the meaning of each era and reveal stories of what it meant to live in those times.”
In its four th year running, A Journey Through Time brings high-end watches and jewellery to the Starhill Gallery Kuala Lumpur for the delight of connoisseurs. The event this year will see exclusive Asian premieres and launches of new collections and innovations. With its theme of “Time to Love”, avid collectors will certainly have plenty to adore in the stunning exhibitions of fine timepieces.
In addition, there will also be a showcase of performances from invited singers such as Scotland’s Katie Targett-Adams and Australia’s Delta Goodrem. For more information, call 03 2782 3855 or visit www.ajourneythroughtime.com.my
