The Little Lady That Could

The life of My EG Services Berhad's Executive Chairman, Dato' Dr Norraesah Mohamad, has been one where failure is simply not an option. The fact that My EG is attaining a golden burnish, with its continual rollout of effi cient e-Government services, is hardly surprising in light of Dato' Dr Norraesah's life philosophy, in which she has "condemned herself to succeed." Kenneth Tan discovers how the winding path of life has led her from a small village in Penang to the corporate summit of the big city.

The bad old days of queuing at the post offi ce for a road tax renewal are slowly disappearing, now that the popular option is to get onto My EG's seamless online renewal service. With the company's recent inclusion by Forbes as one of the 'Best Under a Billion' companies in Asia, it's undeniable that My EG's star is soaring and the numbers tell a useful story of its meteoric rise; a steadily-rising group profi t after tax (PAT) of RM7.1 million in 2007 was superseded year on year and, even in the bearishness of 2009, PAT was recorded at RM17.2 million, with the fi nancial year of 2010 registering RM21 million of PAT.

The company's rise has not gone unnoticed either, with Goldman Sachs becoming a major shareholder on May 12 this year after snapping up close to six per cent of the company.
