Fabergé – the name itself conjures up images of opulent, over-the-top gold-encrusted baubles fit for Russian royalty. Czars were known to present their loved ones with their Imperial Eggs – wondrous creations of gold and jewels. Today, the brand pays homage to their most famous works by introducing the Les Fameux de Fabergé collection – a unique range of exquisitely wrought jewelled pendants, designed in the shape of an egg.
The collection of 12 (one for each month) debuted in Paris during Couture Week this July. The first, called theDiaghilev, has rings of diamonds glittering within an array of blood-red rubies. The rest are no less lavishly ornate. The Ribbon Egg is an elaborate fantasy of enamel, lacquer and precious stones designed to resemble old Russian prints and textiles, while the Train des Fleurs Egg is inspired by the St Petersburg-bound train that once carried spring flowers to winter parties.
