CAPTURING MOMENTS

YONG YOON LI,

General Manager, Royal Selangor International

“I’ve always been interested in photography, but never seemed to find the time and urge to start seriously. Back in the 80s, when my father got his Nikon F3, I considered the camera as something mechanical rather than a tool for art.

Having had the convenience of a digital camera on most of my travels, I recently started looking into film cameras and bought my first Nikon F3. Now, I appreciate that film cameras are an art form because of the processes which you undertake before everything is in place for the shot.

Taking pictures is a pastime and a nice distraction from my daily routine. I do it when I travel for business trips; during the free hours I have in between meetings. I like it that photography brings people of similar interest together, where we share our experiences.

I love those shots that are spontaneous, capturing that fleeting moment in time. I’m enjoying the whole experience of travelling somewhere new, with my camera, because the reward of composing and capturing an interesting picture, is a memory that stays with you forever.”
