New Life

Nestled in a fairly quiet part of Petaling Jaya along the New Pantai Expressway is The Pod pavilion of the nascent Petaling Jaya Commercial City (pjcc.com.my). This futuristic structure is designed by the esteemed architects of Hijjas Kasturi, in collaboration with the much-vaunted Studio Nicoletti from Rome that has worked on key projects such as the Palermo Sport Palace, the Italian Parliament Conference Centre and the Hall of Justice in Arezzo.

The Pod’s shape is reminiscent of a water droplet on the ground, and this landmark piece will spearhead the inspired design ethos of the entire 33-acre development with a total saleable commercial area of approximately four million sq ft. Already, the development has picked up the Cityscape Asia’s 2010 Best Developer Award for Mixed Use (Future) and, in its completion, the project will blend innovative design in an integrated community of commerce and leisure. Perhaps then, the water droplet can also be seen as an allusion to the flowering of stylish living in what will certainly be an image of Petaling Jaya’s future.
