The Scots word for ‘last day of the year’, Hogmanay is celebrated grandly in this royal capital of the British Isles. The festivities begin on New Year’s Eve, with bands taking to the multiple stages and a ‘Torchlight Procession’ at 6.30pm, whereby thousand of torch carriers create a ‘river of fire’ from the city’s Royal Mile to a Son et Lumière, capped by a fireworks finale on Calton Hill.
Better yet, the revelry carries on till the day after New Year’s, as Scotland customarily celebrates its Bank Holiday. Tickets to the Hogmanay street party can be purchased at www.edinburghshogmanay.com
